The delegation from the China Steel Structure Association successfully completed its study tour to Japan.

The China Steel Structure Association organized a delegation of 17 trainees to undergo training at the AOTS Tokyo Training Center in Japan.

At the opening ceremony, Chieko Yamaguchi, Executive Director of AOTS; Naohiro Haneda, Chairman of the Overseas Steel Structure Promotion Subcommittee of the Japan Steel Structure Association; and Li Qingwei, Secretary-General of the China Steel Structure Association, delivered speeches in succession. AOTS Training Program Manager Hina Ushimachi provided a detailed explanation of the curriculum, training content, and important considerations.

During subsequent training sessions, Mr. Naohiro Haneda and Mr. Kazumoto Suzuki, Deputy Director of the Japan Steel Structure Association Secretariat, delivered presentations titled “Promotion of Steel Structure Applications in Japan.” They provided comprehensive insights into Japan’s steel structure promotion efforts, covering topics such as economic growth and the steel market, the development history of Japanese steel structures, and the application of steel structures in seismic design. Mr. Yoshimoto, Head of the Building Materials Development Technology Department at the Japan Iron and Steel Federation, lectured on high-strength steel and welding technology.

Following the training program schedule, the delegation visited the Meiji Yasuda Life Shinjuku Building renovation project site and the Komai HALTEC steel structure manufacturing plant for study tours, engaging in in-depth exchanges on Japanese steel structure construction and fabrication techniques.

Masaya TAKI, Team Leader of the Architectural Design Department at Kajima Corporation, delivered a detailed presentation on “Structural Design in Actual Projects.” He then guided participants to the World Trade Center Building construction site for in-depth discussions on relevant construction technologies.

Yu TAKABATAKE, Chief Researcher of the Materials Reliability Research Department at Nippon Steel Corporation’s Steel Research Laboratory, provided a detailed exposition on “Corrosion and Anti-Corrosion of Steel.”

Finally, a joint Sino-Japanese steel structure technical exchange meeting was held, featuring in-depth discussions on technical details of typical Chinese steel structure project cases. AOTS also conducted a training completion ceremony, awarding certificates to the participants. During the training period, Secretary-General Li Qingwei held discussions with the Japan Steel Structure Association to explore future cooperation opportunities in the steel structure industry between China and Japan.

The successful completion of this study tour to Japan not only broadened the international perspective of Chinese steel structure practitioners and enhanced their professional skills but also established a platform for learning and exchange between China and Japan, deepening mutual understanding and friendship. Moving forward, steel structure professionals from both countries will continue to collaborate closely, actively promoting high-quality development in the steel structure industry.
